Four weeks ago Sony's PSN service was taken down due to security breaches.  Now after many reactivation delays the service has returned (in part) and Sony are planning on compensating those poor souls whose PSN was taken from them.

First off, to get back on PSN you'll have to download a system update then change your password.  You'll need to do this on the same PS3 you originally activated your account on.

Congratulations!  You once again have access to:
  • Restoration of Online game-play across the PlayStation3 and PSP systems
  • This includes titles requiring online verification and downloaded games
  • Access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3/PSP for existing subscribers
  • Access to account management and password reset
  • Access to download un-expired Movie Rentals on PS3, PSP and MediaGo
  • PlayStationHome
  • Friends List
  • Chat Functionality

In addition Sony will be compensating you with the following:
  • Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details of this content will be announced in each region soon.
  • All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of
  • PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
  • Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.
On top of this PSN members will be offered a choice of two games from a list of five titles as an apology for the down time, and PSP users will have the choice of two of four titles.

Sony of America claims that it will afford PSN users $1million worth of protection for their information, nothing has been announced for EU customers as of yet.
